THE TECHNICAL SOLUTION
In 2009 we made the decision to build a subsidiary of Ghenova in Brazil. The objective was to be able to contribute to the development of that country at a fundamental moment, bringing the value and experience of our engineering. In fact, our company is the result of a similar situation in Spain.
Two years later, Brazil was leading the ranking of emerging markets in the world and Ghenova Brazil signed an agreement with the STX Promar shipyard to develop the engineering of eight ships destined to transport liquid petroleum gas for Transpetro, the Petrobras shipping company.
The scope of the project involved the comprehensive development of detailed engineering, support in procurement and supply chain management and permanent support for the construction of three series of ships: four 7,000m3 pressurized, two 4,000m3 pressurized and two semi-pressurized with a capacity of 12,000m3.
At Ghenova we were responsible for the development, execution and management of engineering in the disciplines of structures, piping, equipment, outfitting, electricity, instrumentation, electronics, HVAC and rating.
It is the company's largest naval engineering project to date. In it we were able to coordinate a large multidisciplinary engineering team.
To this end, we work in parallel in the offices in Rio de Janeiro and Recife (Brazil); Seville and Ferrol (Spain).
The production of the ships had to be alternated between two yards. The quality of the engineering response remained constant, and a comprehensive training plan for working at the shipyard was implemented.
We were pioneers in the world in using the AVEVA 12, with Tribon on board. AVEVA itself dedicated an article in its international magazine to this fact and to the project.
Upon completion of the first ship, we obtained the Certificate of Registration and Classification (CRCC) granted by Petrobras to companies that meet all the requirements to become an approved service provider.
In addition, we promoted an internship program for Brazilian students thanks to the collaboration of the International Graduate and Doctoral Centre of the University of Seville. Students in the programme were able to apply their knowledge in this project.
INTERNA ASSESSMENT OF THE PROJECT
We sent a large number of our most experienced professionals, as well as GHENOVA’s leaders in each discipline. The commitment of all guaranteed success.
Previous references with other STX shipyards in Europe and naval experience were decisive for us to be the successful bidder.
We learned new methods and regulations to face a project of these features without penalizing the deadlines. Thanks to the results, the client endorsed our capacity to intervene with other orders in Brazil.
