THE TECHNICAL SOLUTION
The ferries "Volcán del Teide" and "Volcán de Tinamar", built by the Spanish shipyard Barreras in Vigo, are the culmination of the renovation plan of Naviera Armas. Their dimensions -176 m long and 26.4 m wide- make them the largest Ro-Pax vessels (ro-ro and passenger) built by the shipyard for the shipping company to date. Their design, technical-operational capacity and comfort, equivalent to that of a five-star hotel, have made them an international benchmark in their segment.
With the entry into service of the new ships, Armas achieved a turning point in the transport of people and vehicles between the peninsula, the Canary Islands and the archipelago itself. It means leaving aside the concept of transport of people and goods to move to the concept of port-to-port tourism.
The ships were to be considered as an attraction for tourist travel, in addition to operating as a regular shipping service.
GHENOVA designed and developed the engineering of the new ships around this conceptual and functional renovation. Specifically, the design and development project of conceptual, contractual and basic engineering of the entire ships was prepared, except for the electrical installation. Likewise, technical assistance was offered to the shipowner in different constructive aspects and to the accommodation supplier.
The "Volcán del Teide" and "Volcán de Tinamar" are in service today, offering excellent operating results.
The design of these "Cruise Ferry" type vessels integrates the industrial, technological and creative ingenuity of our team.
Besides the aesthetic nature, functionality, operability in handling, rolling load manoeuvres and passenger comfort stand out. And with respect to the propulsion systems, they turn out to be highly efficient and reliable vessels.
internal assessment of the project
For us it is a reference project for different reasons.
Due to the complexity of the project, for which we had a team of about 40 technicians, mostly naval engineers with extensive experience.
For the confidence of Barreras, which during the last 15 years has been trusting GHENOVA for all the projects carried out in that shipyard.
Because we strive to rationalize the aesthetics and functionality of the living spaces on the ship, considering at all times the safety of people.
For the experience of coordinating a wide network of suppliers and collaborators and being effective in solving the increasingly complex industrial installations on board.
And for the importance of developing good communication channels between project members, as well as strict compliance with confidentiality and security requirements.
