THE TECHNICAL SOLUTION
The frigate "Cristóbal Colón" is the fifth unit of the Álvaro de Bazán class (F-100) of the Spanish Navy. A ship that incorporates the most sophisticated combat system of its kind, AEGIS. Known as "The Shield of the Fleet", it provides a high combat capacity, allowing the integration of weapons and sensors.
The F-100 frigates were configured for maximum antiaircraft capability in underwater and antiaircraft operations.
In 2007, Navantia awarded the integral development engineering project to GHENOVA. This phase was completed in 2010, and was later moved to a second phase of production and maintenance engineering.
The F-105 "Cristóbal Colón" is technologically one of the world's leading combat ships. It allows to operate on a level playing field with the most advanced units of the US Navy, thus participating in the development of the missile shield. With this background, at GHENOVA we are responsible for the complete engineering.
To date, this milestone has been the most important military project for us, and it has helped to strengthen the relationship with Navantia. The client thus guarantees our capacity for development and results in projects with high added value, technology and security. GHENOVA had nearly 100 highly qualified professionals, with the Ferrol office coordinating and executing the project for the most part.
The F-105 project led to the development of another similar vessel for the Australian Navy, the AWD. Initially conceived as a copy project, it evolved into a prototype project and was finally taken as a reference to build the AWD. Once both were finished, a program of continuous improvement was started, where the PLM system defined by our team, is still today "the tool" that contributes to guarantee the quality and traceability of our services.
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT OF THE PROJECT
We consider of great relevance the experience and the processes that have been defined for the information management of a project of these characteristics, changing, complex and confidential.
In addition, a valuable design review plan was implemented and executed in parallel with the continuous updating of the checklists.
And last but not least, we were able to quantify through the definition of tangible criteria, the client’s qualitative assessment of our services.
